Inanimate Alice uses text, colour, sound, movement and images to construct meaning. The use of these together makes the story more emotive, and understandable. For example one part of the story shows the stairs that Alice is about to climb, as she climbs them, the images change to show her going up each step by movement through the pictures, as well as a noise of her stepping on the metal stairs. As she is on the stairs, the page is almost entirely filled with the picture of the dark stairs, which draws focus onto this aspect of the story, and shows Alice's fear through colour. I also noticed how the text gets smaller, or moves around, in times when Alice is frightened.I particularly like the use of the images panning around, such as when Alice escapes, and it shows the town from up above panning. I also liked the use of zooming in and out, or stepping closer or further away from images, to construct the meaning of time and movement. These two techniques have given me inspiration, and further ideas, for when I create my own multi-modal text.
